Accessible Groups and Activities

Scarboicca – Boicca is a sport designed for people with disabilities affecting motor skills, where players propel balls towards a target. Scarboicca are currently the reigning regional champions and are always seeking new members and volunteers. They meet every Tuesday from 4:00 – 5:30 pm, and Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm at the Scarborough Everyone Active Sports Village.

IndepenDANCE CIC – IndepenDANCE offers nights out exclusively for people with disabilities, bridging the gap on nights out with friends, music and dancing in night clubs. IndepenDANCE hold events on Mondays, 6 times a year in the Sanctuary bar in Scarborough. Check the Facebook page for details on the next event.

RVS Sightloss – RVS Sightloss offers regular activities, primarily for people with sight or hearing loss, ranging from relaxed lunches, days out to Flamingo Land, golfing, or even sailing or rock climbing.

Bowls N’Buggies – Bowls N’Buggies is based at the Scarborough Indoor Bowls Centre. Set up to encourage and enable those with disabilities to be able to play indoor bowls. The club offers special wheelchairs called “buggies” which can be used to participate. The club meets every Saturday from 10:00 – 12:00 am.

Wetwheels – Wetwheels builds disabled people’s confidence by providing the opportunity to access the sea in a fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding way using specially modified, fully accessible powerboats.

Cinemas

Libraries

Local libraries host a variety of groups, regular activities and talks. During school holidays and weekends there will often be activities for children running. Some upcoming events can be found here. However check your local library for a complete list.

Scarborough YMCA

Scarborough YMCA offers a wide variety of activities for young people, with a large range of sports and performing arts related groups. YMCA Theatre plays host to a wide range of performances throughout the year.

Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough

In addition to theatre, cinema and hosting talks, the Stephen Joseph Theatre has an outreach project, which runs groups and classes to give everyone the opportunity to get involved with the performing arts. Groups include choirs, and dementia friendly dance.

The Street Scarborough

The Street offers activity spaces to a range of not for profit organisations, and hosts a large range of events, classes and activities including Yoga, Martial Arts, Art Classes and a large climbing wall.

North Yorkshire Connect is a directory set up by North Yorkshire County Council, to find groups, services and activities in your local area.

Scarborough Sports Village

Scarborough Sports Village is host to a range of active and sporting activities and groups. Including two swimming pools, a football pitch and a 60 station gym, and offering a wide range of active activities.

Scarborough Spa

The Spa plays host to a wide variety of events and performances throughout the year. Including regular orchestra performances throughout the summer.

Bridlington Spa

Bridlington Spa hosts a wide range of events, including a free weekly cinema.

Whitby Pavillion

In addition to it’s cinema, Whitby Pavillion hosts a range of different performances throughout the year.
