We are looking for a Care Support Worker(s) to join a team who help a very sociable gentleman, who has a good sense of humour, and who maintains a keen interest in coast and country, in spite of his limited mobility these days. Successful treatment for a brain tumour several years ago has increasingly affected several functions including mobility and swallowing.
The hours available are 22 hours per week, over 2 days 8am till 7 pm. Hours/days will be discussed at interview level.
The care and support are within the home and community environment. The gentleman lives with his wife.
We are looking for help with all aspects of personal care and with careful moving and handling, including hoisting to riser recliner or to wheelchair.
Patience and attention to detail are required when helping with meals and medications.
We are looking for a team member who will keep him safe and well, and who importantly will also help him to get the maximum out of life. He enjoys going out in his electric wheelchair to the seafront and also taking a wheelchair taxi out to the countryside occasionally. He enjoys music, DVD’s and nature magazines and requires assistance with all of these.
It is not always easy to express his needs and he would welcome someone who can anticipate and interpret these.
There will be some household duties including keeping the kitchen and the gentleman’s room tidy.
The hours to be covered are over 2 days per week (11 hour shifts = 22 hours), normally with 2:1 support, these days can be flexible to suit other team members, and a rota will be used to try to accommodate all staff and family.
